Talking More and More About Jesus
We began this year with a sermon series on talking about Jesus. It was inspired by a chorus which I heard on the radio many years ago. About the first of December, out of the blue sky, coming down from heaven, this song stuck in my head. So here it is
Let’s Talk About Jesus
Let’s talk about Jesus
The King of kings is He
The LORD of lords supreme
Throughout eternity
The great I am, the Way
The Truth, the Life, the Door
Let’s talk about Jesus more and more
I found myself singing it all the time. When I woke up, when I went to sleep, when I was eating or just relaxing, this song was on my mind. I had not heard nor thought about it for decades. So, I began to ask the Holy Spirit why. I was directed to the book of Acts of the Apostles. I read about the founding of Jesus’ church, the assembly of those who believed in Him. They met, they sang, they prayed, the worshiped but the main thing they consistently did was that they talked about Jesus. They talked everywhere, with anyone, and at any time. Take time to read the first four chapters in the book of Acts. Jesus was their life and He was the topic of their conversation.
“But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” Galatians 6:14
Paul, one of the early apostles, tells us that there is nothing worth discussing except Jesus the Christ. It is only by faith in the cross of Jesus that our eternity with Yahweh is secured.
“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18
Jesus suffered a terrible death on the cross as He was crucified becoming our sin and absorbing Yahweh’s holy wrath toward us because of our unbelief and disobedience.
“looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2
This passage in Hebrews also tells us that He faced this suffering with joy. He knew full well before the cross that He would rise from the grave and ascend into heaven and sit upon His throne ruling over the created universe.
Easter is coming and we will be celebrating Jesus’ awesome love sacrifice which He made on our behalf. As we approach this day of celebration let us talk about Jesus more and more.
Because Jesus loves us,
