Faith is a Way of Life

As we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus and His victory over the grave, death, and sin on Easter Sunday, we are reminded of His awesome love for us as we observe the Lord’s Supper in our services.  Let us worship Him and be glad in the eternal hope we have in Jesus.

Faith is something we all live by.  In reality it is the basis of our entire lives.  We rise each day with the unquestionable belief that we will live throughout the day returning home at night.  We believe that we will succeed in all we do, accomplishing everything which is expected of us.  We believe that the whole of life revolves around and depends on us.  In short, we believe all these things without question to the point of assumption.  Faith is innate in all of mankind.  It does not matter if we are doctors, lawyers, or the president of a country, we believe.

Yet faith can be fickle depending on what it is founded and rooted.  The situations of life are constantly changing from day to day, moment to moment.  If one’s faith is based on constantly changing circumstances, then one’s trust becomes unstable and continually fluctuating between belief and unbelief.  Faith which depends upon life which is changing all the time will lead to emotional fatigue and mental instability.  It produces a life of stress, anxiety, despair, and depression.

Such a shifting faith is unhealthy to our bodies, our souls and our spirits.  It is not the healthy life which the Bible promises.  It is not the healthy life Jesus desires for us to live.  It is not the healthy life the Holy Spirit daily provides for us to experience.

In order for our lives to be stable, our belief system must be founded and rooted in someone or something which is in itself stable and unchanging.  The Creator of the universe has revealed Himself to us in His Word and His Spirit.  As creator of all He is absolute, all knowing, all powerful, and ever present.  He does not change nor even waver in the slightest.  He is the absolute foundation in which we can place our faith and trust for a securely stable life.  It is a life of calmness, peace, joy, and love which nothing else can sustain.  It is a life of purpose and success, filled with hope.

“The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, because he trusts in You.  Trust in the Lord forever,” Isaiah 26:3-4

When our hope and faith are secure in Jesus then we are freed from the worry and anxiousness of life.  Nothing shakes our trust in Him.  Nothing moves us from faith in Him.  Jesus becomes the secure constant in our life.  Since He never changes, He never fails.

“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil, where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 6:19-20

Since we have been redeemed and reconciled through Jesus to a loving God, let us not grow weary in our devotion to the One who, because of His immutability, ever lives for us.

“yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach—if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven,….” Colossians 1:22-23

By faith in His absolute unchangeableness our lives are lived out with determined hope which is assured in Him.

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:58
