What is God’s Will for each Believer?
In all honesty each believer would have to admit that there are times when they struggle with their life of obedience to Yahweh’s will for their life. Paul himself admitted his struggles in his letter to the Romans.
“For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.” Romans 7:15
“For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.” Romans 7:18-19
Even Jesus in His manhood briefly struggled.
“Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” Luke 22:42
But Jesus in His instructions to His disciples about how to pray mentioned the importance of the Father’s will being done here just as it is done in heaven.
“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10
Jesus tells us that His Kingdom is not of this world. It is a spiritual kingdom, an otherworldly kingdom. It does not function nor deal with the things of this world.
“For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” Romans 14:17
The authority and power of Jesus’ Kingdom on earth reside in the presence of the Holy Spirit in each believer.
“Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17:21
As born-again believers we should live by faith in the power and authority of the Holy Spirit.
“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25
Humbly submitting to the Holy Spirit’s power and authority will change us, will sanctify us into the image of Jesus. He will make us Christlike.
“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” Romans 8:29
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:2
Our submission to the power and authority of the Holy Spirit in our lives will also result in the love and goodness of Jesus being shared through us with the world.
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
Let us live in humble submission to the Spirit of Jesus that the will of our loving Father will be accomplished in and through our life in the world.
Because Jesus loves us,
