Good Works
The New Testament is filled with admonition from the Lord Jesus the Christ that we are to daily be busy serving others. In fact He creates opportunities for us to work on the behalf of others.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.’ Ephesians 2:10
When we take advantage of these opportunities and do good to others, we reflect the love of the Lord God Almighty for others and He in turn is glorified by them.
“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
Jesus places the command to love others as the second of the two basic commandments. If we love the Lord God Almighty and others then we will be righteous in all of the law of the Lord.
“For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” Galatians 5:14
How should each believer express their love for others? We are to do it by treating them just like we want to be treated. We should respect them like we want to be respected. We should care for them as we wish to be cared for.
“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 7:12
Today, now, is the opportunity Jesus has given to you to love and do good for someone else. Take hold of the opportunity for Jesus’ honor and glory.
“So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.” Galatians 6:10
Live with dignity and integrity before others and seek opportunities to speak uplifting words of encouragement. Exalt Jesus and edify His disciples in the faith.
“Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.” Colossians 4:5-6
Be wise and make the most of the day Jesus has given to you. Be blessed as you bless others.
“Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:15
