Resisting Evil

One of the greatest needs of the Body of Christ is the constant prayer for one another.  Our struggle is not with others but with spiritual powers of evil.  Satan desires Yahweh’s position and glory.  He seeks to defeat our witness and rob people the opportunity to come to faith in Jesus and experience Yahweh’s merciful salvation.

“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

Jesus has a plan for our days as we follow Him.  But Satan also has plans for our day desiring to deter us from following Jesus.

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11

We have been warned in Scripture about Satanic desires and attacks.  We should not be taken by surprise when they come upon us.

“so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.” 2 Corinthians 2:11

In Jesus’ plans for our life as we follow Him, He has supplied all the help we need to overcome the schemes of the devil.  Even though we are weak, his temptations will not overcome us.

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13

Even though we may seem like a little weak child, defenseless before such a great adversary, we need to remember that the Spirit of Jesus is greater than the spirit of Satan.

“Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

In our childlike dependency and weakness, the grace of Jesus is powerful and effective to keep us from falling into temptation and sin.

“But he said to me, ’My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

Make wise use of the provisions of Jesus to stand against and defeat the schemes of Satan in his attempt to deter you from following Jesus.

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.” Ephesians 6:13

Because Jesus loves us,
