No matter how busy our day becomes with all its twists and turns we do not forget to breathe. In fact, we do not even think about it as our brain just rhythmically causes us to breathe in the air we need. Our bodies are wonderfully created because if my brain did not tell me to breathe, I would get busy and forget and then where would I be?
My walking with Jesus is the same. I can get lost in the day with all that is going on and I am reminded by His Spirit that I need to rhythmically take spiritual breathes. I need to find myself breathing in and out the richness of His presence in my life. I need to have Him in my thoughts and see Him in the situations of my day. In the beginning it takes a lot of conscious effort on my part as I try to listen to the Holy Spirit. The more I discipline my life to listen to and follow Jesus, the more natural it becomes. After a while it becomes so natural that just like breathing air, I find myself dwelling on Jesus, talking to Jesus, and walking with Jesus without even thinking about it.
This is truly abiding in Jesus, praying without ceasing and living in the Spirit. Whether physical discipline or spiritual nothing comes easy, but the reward is most precious to our souls. Practice spiritual disciplines and naturally walk in the garden of life with our awesome God every day.
