Eternity

As eternity looms before us all there are two important things which we must do as we prepare to enter into our eternal state.

First we must prepare ourselves to meet the Lord God Almighty, Himself. 

“Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel.” Amos 4:12

When we do enter into eternity and meet the Lord God Almighty we must be prepared to give an account of our life.

“And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment.” Hebrews 9:27

The unsettling thing about giving God an account of our life is that we all know in our hearts that we have not lived up to His expectations of belief in and obedience to Him.

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

When we enter into eternity we all will find ourselves in a bad position.  Therefore how should we prepare to meet the Lord God Almighty?

We need a substitute to stand before God on our behalf.  Because He loves us, God Himself provided a substitute, Jesus the Christ.  By His death He gave His life as a substitute for ours and by His resurrection He provided us with a hope of eternal life through and with Him.  It is by the shedding of His blood that He offers us mercy and forgiveness for our short comings in belief and obedience.

“and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood—“ Revelation 1:5

But we must trust in Jesus and put our faith in Him.  We must believe that who He is and what He said is the truth and live accordingly, following His Spirit.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.  For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” Ephesians 2:8–10

By our faith in the sacrificial blood of Jesus we are able to prepare ourselves to meet with the Lord God Almighty face to face.  Trust Jesus, trust His blood today and everyday as we draw close to eternity.
